The ZEE5 streaming platform has become the home to Mithya, the Indian adaptation of the hit U.K. drama Cheat.

Produced by Applause Entertainment in association with Rose Audio Visual Production, the six-part series features among its cast Huma Qureshi, Avantika Dassani, Parambrata Chatterjee, Rajit Kapur and Samir Soni. Rohan Sippy directed the local treatment.

Set in Darjeeling, Mithya navigates through the conflicted relationships between a Hindi literature professor, Juhi (Qureshi), and her student Rhea (Dassani). What sparks off as a classroom conflict soon spirals out of control, triggering an adverse psychological combat between the two women leading to fatal consequences and shocking revelations.

The series is now available on ZEE5 across 190-plus countries.

Mithya was adapted from Cheat, which was written by Gaby Hull and produced by Two Brothers Pictures for ITV (U.K.) in association with All3Media International.

Amanda Pe of All3Media International’s AsiaPac team said: “This brilliant new execution of Cheat, our drama that pits a female university lecturer against her startlingly bright female student, marks a first for us at All3Media International working with Applause Entertainment. Mithya has garnered outstanding talent in its production and the results look quite amazing. This is a story that Indian audiences will surely love.”

Sameer Nair, CEO of Applause Entertainment, said: “Mithya marks our first production with All3Media International. We love to entertain audiences and in Cheat we found the perfect format, a thrilling psychological drama offering brilliant roles for female talent and set in an educational universe, a story that resonates with Indian audiences.”
