Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group) has unveiled a new scripted original for its Viaplay service, Hammarvik, created by best-selling Swedish author Camilla Läckberg.

The 16-episode series blends the crime-drama and soap opera genres. Casting is underway for filming to begin in the spring of next year in Trollhättan, Sweden. The series will stream on Viaplay in late 2020, with international distribution being handled by Eccho Rights.

Filippa Wallestam, NENT Group’s chief content officer, noted, “Camilla Läckberg’s writing has an unmistakably cinematic style ideally suited to this project. The unique combination of crime drama and soap opera in Hammarvik will enable Viaplay audiences to follow richly developed characters and explore multiple storylines—while unraveling a mystery in the best traditions of the Nordic crime genre. We continue to reimagine Nordic storytelling for the streaming era, and this collaboration with one of Sweden’s most successful authors shows the scale of our ambitions.”
