SÃO PAULO: Uruguayan network Teledoce has signed up as a partner for Globo’s upcoming drama Supermax, which already counts Mexico’s TV Azteca and Spain’s Mediaset España as co-producers.

The series has been billed as Globo’s first original production for the international market. Also co-producing are Argentine network TV Pública and Oficina Burman, the banner of series showrunner Daniel Burman. The ten-episode thriller will focus on a fictional reality show set in an abandoned prison and will star actors from across Latin America and Spain.

“We are delighted to have Teledoce on board for this new project,” said Raphael Corrêa Netto, the executive director of Globo’s international business division. “We have a longstanding partnership dating back some 40 years, when we sold our first product for the international market, O bem amado, in 1973. Since then, Teledoce has been a strategic partner in our growth. We know that, like us, the channel has much to contribute to the renewal process that the creative environment in our region is experiencing. And it will play a key role in making us an even stronger contender in the competitive international market.”

“It is an honor to Teledoce that Globo chose us as a strategic partner to develop its first product in [Spanish] and tailor-made for the Latin market,” said Eugenio Restano Scheck, the programming manager of Teledoce. “For more than 40 years of uninterrupted relationship, Globo kept giving us their confidence. From our place, and with the contribution of César Troncoso, [a Uruguayan actor starring in the series], we will make every effort to transform Supermax into the flagship product it was intended to be.

“Today’s globalization promotes the search for common projects, where synergies help enhance the productions. Hopefully this type of alliance is the beginning of a long way to go together. We would like to thank and congratulate Ricardo Scalamandré, Raphael Correa Netto, and all his great team for developing this type of action.”
