NEW YORK: Univision Communications’ Univision Story House has revealed that El Chapo, a new drama series about the Mexican drug lord, is slated to begin airing on Univision Network this spring.

El Chapo tells the story of the real-life drug kingpin Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, who was recently extradited to the U.S., where he faces a 17-count indictment in connection to his leadership of the Mexican crime syndicate Sinaloa Cartel. The show marks the first co-production between Univision Story House and Netflix. It will debut on Univision in April 2017.

“This series pulls back the curtain on one of the most captivating criminals of our time by combining the world-class reporting and insights from Univision News’ investigative team with an outstanding team of talented storytellers and producers,” said Camila Jiménez Villa, who oversees Univision Story House as president and chief content officer of Fusion Media Group. “We are thrilled to be partnering with Netflix to share this boundary-breaking new series with a global audience.”
