Tony Shalhoub to Star in Carlos Ghosn Series from Fremantle

Fremantle, Revolution Films, Passenger and Anonymous Content are co-producing Fall of the God of Cars about Carlos Ghosn, with Tony Shalhoub (Monk, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) set to star in the lead role.

Written and directed by Revolution Films’ Michael Winterbottom (This England, Welcome to Sarajevo), the six-part series will tell the story of former Nissan and Renault CEO Ghosn, who was arrested in Japan and orchestrated his own escape to Beirut a year later, hidden in a music case on a private jet.

Fall of the God of Cars was originally developed by Winterbottom, Alfonso Cuarón and Anonymous Content. Executive producers are Richard Brown for Passenger and Fremantle, Melissa Parmenter for Revolution Films and Violaine Etienne for Anonymous Content. David Levine and Garrett Kemble are overseeing the project for Anonymous Content.

“Carlos Ghosn was a superstar of the car industry, the first person ever to have simultaneously been CEO of two Fortune 500 companies,” Winterbottom said. “It is wonderful to have Tony Shalhoub on board to play this complex character.”

Christian Vesper, CEO of global drama at Fremantle, added, “We are excited to announce this latest collaboration with Michael, Richard and the team at Anonymous Content. They are the perfect visionary and creative partners to bring this fascinating and incredulous story to life.”

Fremantle previously partnered with Winterbottom and Brown on the Sky original drama This England.
