Third Culture Content Taps Crazy Rich Asians Producer Janice Chua

Third Culture Content (TCC) has appointed Janice Chua as co-founder and producer, effective immediately.

Chua previously worked at Imagine Entertainment, where she was VP of international development and production and played a pivotal role in local-language content. Prior to that, she was VP of development and production for Asia at Ivanhoe Pictures and was one of the producers behind the 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians.

While at Imagine Entertainment, she executive produced Taiwan Crime Stories for Disney+. At Ivanhoe, she specialized in developing and packaging Chinese-language projects for China and Southeast Asia.

Before that, Chua served as director of international at Beijing Galloping Horse, overseeing international business and co-productions, including the international sales for John Woo’s historical drama The Crossing.

Coinciding with Chua’s hiring, Third Culture Content has begun development on a U.S. adaptation of the Korean workplace romance drama King The Land with SLL, adding to its diverse slate of multicultural projects.

Third Culture Content was initially established to produce the English-Korean bilingual series Dramaworld in 2016. Dramaworld premiered globally on Netflix, with its second season released in 2022 on Prime Video in the U.S., ITV in the U.K., CBC in Canada, iQIYI in Southeast Asia, TVing in Korea and UNEXT in Japan.

The company saw a turning point in 2021 when it raised seed investment from partners including YouTube co-founder Steve Chen, U.S.- and Korea-based venture capital firm Strong Ventures and LA-based film and TV financier Yintai Investment Company.
