Director J.Q. Lee (All of Us Are Dead) from Film Monster and producer Akira Morii (Alice in Borderland) from The Seven have partnered for a new drama series.

The Japanese and Korean co-production will feature a protagonist with unique abilities never before seen in movies or Japanese comics. Development is already underway, and Lee and Morii are set to begin scriptwriting.

Lee has been involved in a variety of leading films and series in Korea. He directed All of Us Are Dead, which topped Netflix’s top ten list for non-English TV in 91 countries for two weeks, and Daily Dose of Sunshine, which portrayed the mental states of patients using VFX. He is currently working on a new season of All of Us of Are Dead.

Morii served as producer for Alice in Borderland season two, which set a record for the highest viewing hours for a Japanese Netflix production, and Yu Yu Hakusho, which ranked second among all drama series in the first week after its release. Since 2022, he has been the chief content officer of The Seven. He is currently in the process of producing a third season of Alice in Borderland.

Film Monster is a Korean production label under SLL. The Seven is a subsidiary of Tokyo Broadcasting System Holdings (TBS). The Seven has signed a memorandum of understanding for the co-production of films and dram series with SLL Japan, the Japanese subsidiary of SLL.

“Although Morii plays on a global stage, he possesses a meticulous sensibility that is unique to Japanese,” Lee said. “I wanted to collaborate with him in anticipation of receiving good stimulation.”

“As a big fan of the Director J.Q. Lee’s work, I was pleasantly surprised and delighted when he approached me with a proposal this time,” Morii commented.

“Morii passionately embraced the concept I proposed and added innovative ideas, resulting in a more compelling story,” Lee added. “I believe that by working together, we can create a piece that resonates with people worldwide, not only in Korea and Japan.”

“We cannot disclose specific details at this time, but I can say that this project will feature an ingenious and unheard-of storyline,” Morii noted. “We can’t wait to share it with the world as soon as possible.”
