The Luck of Huemac Book Being Brought to TV by Televisa USA

SANTA MONICA: Televisa USA is teaming up with Atalaya Productions to develop the English-language series Aztecs, which is based on Daniel Peters’ critically acclaimed book The Luck of Huemac.

Michael Chernuchin (Marco Polo, Black Sails) has signed on as showrunner. The show will feature a multi-ethnic cast. The story follows a family living in the last times of a little-known civilization as the Spanish invasion looms. It will mark the first TV project to tackle the subject of the pre-Columbian empire from their own vantage point (rather than that of Cortez or the Conquistadors).

“The team we assembled is perfect to bring this shockingly tragic cultural tale to TV in an authentic and respectful way,” said Chris Philip, the head of production and distribution for Televisa USA. “Intrigue, betrayal and romance will be part of this great story and it all will be told from the eyes of the people that built and lost this great civilization.”
