Telemundo Global Studios has entered into an agreement with Planeta to license the exclusive rights for the complete library of the best-selling Spanish author Corín Tellado, known as the “great dame” of romantic novels.

Telemundo Global Studios now holds the exclusive rights to produce modern-day adaptations of Tellado’s tales in multiple formats, including episodic, short- and long-form series, for linear and digital platforms. Planeta will provide consulting services for the selection and adaptation of titles via its transmedia content division, Stories.

Tellado has penned nearly 4,000 titles throughout her career and has sold over 400 million books. Her stories are known for their strong female characters, who face intense and difficult situations and, against all odds, take control of their lives in their quest for true love. Her works have been translated into 27 different languages. Tellado’s collection includes No le hagas caso a tu hija (Don’t Pay Attention to your Daughter), No está loca (She Isn’t Crazy), Nadie te conoce (Nobody Knows You), Historia de dos mujeres (Story of Two Women) and El Cambió mi vida (He Changed My Life).

Marcos Santana, the president of Telemundo Global Studios, commented: “As the number one producer of scripted Spanish-language content in the U.S., licensing the rights to the entire library of Corín Tellado’s universal and timeless stories is a dream come true. As Vargas Llosa would say, ‘Corín Tellado was a master on the essence of literature, which is storytelling. She gave her readers a mix between fantasy and irrationality, without which we cannot live’. We have worked on a noteworthy, comprehensive plan based on Tellado’s library to develop powerful series for diverse formats and platforms. Today, more than ever, Spanish-language viewers are craving great love stories, and there is no other studio better equipped to bring these stories to life in a modern, culturally relevant way for Latino audiences to enjoy.”

Joaquín Álvarez de Toledo, director for specialized publishing and innovation for Stories at Planeta, added: “Corín Tellado’s works became an important part of Planeta in 2017 when we created the Ediciones Corín Tellado label to specifically recognize her novels. By way of this agreement, we want to honor one of our most beloved authors on a global scale, a woman that contributed, like few others, to creating voracious readers for generations.”
