Story House Productions and Satel Film are collaborating on a six-part drama series inspired by the life of Austrian Empress Elisabeth II.

Dorothee Schön and Sabine Thor-Widemann serve as head writers on the production, with Andreas Gutzeit (Story House) and Heinrich Ambrosch (Satel Film) producing. Production kicks off in 2020.

Thor-Wiedemann commented, “Sisi is an equally sensitive and powerful woman, who was far ahead of her time. On a very personal level, she grapples with issues that are just as relevant to women today, as they were to Sisi 150 years ago.”

Schön added, “We are showing an unexpected Sisi. An empress who fears the end of the monarchy and longs for it at the same time.”

Ambrosch noted, “With Freud (Netflix, ORF) we have just finished a powerful reinterpretation of an Austrian original. Sisi reimagines another legend, fresh and relevant.”

Gutzeit said, “Sisi is a premium TV series that revives the splendor of the Habsburg monarchy and creates a memorable figure. Audiences all over the world will fall in love with her all over again. Sisi is a huge icon and our series pays homage to her.”
