Huanxi Media Group has picked up the exclusive broadcasting rights in mainland China for the upcoming sci-fi series Snowpiercer, which is due to launch on TBS in the U.S. in spring 2020.

Snowpiercer is based on the acclaimed film of the same name from director Bong Joon Ho. Last week, WarnerMedia revealed that a second season has been ordered, prior to the first season premiere.

Set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, Snowpiercer centers on the remnants of humanity, who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually-moving train that circles the globe. Themes include class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival.

Netflix has licensed the international SVOD rights to the series outside of the U.S. and China.
