Showdog Studio has optioned Christopher DeWan’s sci-fi thriller screenplay Wunderland, with Emmy-winning producer James Thorpe (Wild Cards, Private Eyes, Motive) as showrunner and executive producer.

The drama is centered on Cora Carter, a teenage hacker who escapes her real-life troubles by thriving in Wunderland, a VR game introduced by her high school. When she discovers real secrets hidden in the game’s upper levels and uncovers a trail of clues about her mother’s mysterious disappearance, powerful people target her in both worlds.

DeWan is attached as the writer for the pilot episode of Wunderland. Showdog Studio founder John Attard (The Avengers, The Jungle Book, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Gladiator, 20 Sigarette) serves as executive producer alongside Robert Harris (Magnum, P.I.; Miami Vice; The Equalizer; The Incredible Hulk; Parenthood; The Indian in the Cupboard) and Snowfall Films’ Suzanne Lyons. Robert Deege (Soul Surfer, Into the Grizzly Maze, Crash Pad) is attached as producer.

“I love everything about Christopher’s story and the worlds he explores in Wunderland,” Attard said. “As we enter a new year, we are faced with the fact that our lives are constantly being challenged and transformed by technology. At the heart of every story about technology, however, is its impact on humanity. We are thrilled to be bringing James in as showrunner and can’t wait to see the blurred lines between real and virtual in Wunderland come to life.”
