SANTA MONICA: The AMC Networks-backed streaming service Shudder has acquired the exclusive North American rights for the thriller Jordskott.

Season one of Jordskott will debut with its first two episodes on April 6, and two new episodes will launch on Shudder each week. The upcoming second season will also stream on Shudder when it becomes available.

The Scandi noir thriller centers on the seven-year disappearance of police investigator Eva Thörnblad’s daughter, Josefine. Eva is haunted by the belief that Josefine did not drown during their fateful trip to the Silverhojd Lake, but was abducted. When a young boy goes missing in the same area, this motivates Eva to delve deeper into the mystery of the forest and confront her darkest fears.

Season one of the ten-part series has been produced by Palladium Fiction and is distributed by ITV Studios Global Entertainment. Season two is currently in production and will be available in 2018.

Shudder’s VP of global acquisitions and co-productions, Aurelie de Troyer, said: “Jordskott has thrilled us with its alternative take on the crime drama phenomenon with elements of supernatural and Nordic-noir mystery. We are excited to bring this series to our North American members and this is a compelling addition to the ever-expanding Shudder slate of films and series.”

Greg Johnson, the executive VP of distribution for the Americas at ITV Studios Global Entertainment, commented: “We are delighted that premium streaming service Shudder has acquired the North American SVOD rights for this critically acclaimed series. It’s great to see the platform continuing to showcase high-profile, quality series content as well as film.”
