SBS and Screen Australia have commissioned the eight-part drama anthology Erotic Stories, exploring lust, desire and longing.

Each story is told from a different character perspective and spotlights diverse experiences across age, sexuality, race, gender and disability. Writing for the series are Niki Aken, Tamara Asmar, Alistair Baldwin, Christine Bartlett, Glace Chase, Marieke Hardy, Sara Khan and Sarah Walker.

From Lingo Pictures (Upright, The Secrets She Keeps), the series is being produced by Helen Bowden and Liam Heyen and executive produced by Jason Stephens.

Erotic Stories will air on SBS in 2023. ITV is managing international sales.

“We’re pleased to support this original series from an exciting group of writers working together with the highly experienced Lingo Pictures,” said Grainne Brunsdon, head of content at Screen Australia. “These frank and uplifting stories will explore our human need for emotional and physical connection and spotlight authentic experiences that aren’t often seen on our screens, and I can’t wait to see it engage viewers on SBS next year.”

Erotic Stories is an exciting and bold way to explore stories that give us new perspectives,” said Julie Eckersley, head of scripted at SBS. “It delivers on our vision at SBS to take big creative risks, experimenting with format and genre and to make dramas not seen anywhere else on Australian TV. Each of these beautiful and erotic stories is told from a point of view we have not seen strongly represented on mainstream television to date. It is sure to raise some eyebrows and heart rates and get Australians talking… in hushed whispers.”

Lingo Pictures’ managing director, Helen Bowden, added, “Making these potent stories with such a splendid group of creatives is a wonderful opportunity, and Lingo can’t wait to get started. Thank you, SBS!”
