Fake, a romance-scam thriller inspired by the best-selling book of the same name by Stephanie Wood, is set to stream on ITVX on April 20 and begin airing weekly on ITV1 on April 26.
In the thriller, Asher Keddie (Nine Perfect Strangers) stars as a magazine features writer who thinks she has found her perfect match when she meets a successful rancher, played by David Wenham (Pieces of Her) on a dating app. As their relationship grows, she is torn between his magnetic pull and the instinct that he isn’t all he has led her to believe.
Screenwriter Anya Beyersdorf (The Twelve) adapted the book for the screen. The series is directed by Emma Freeman (Love Me, The Newsreader, Tidelands), with additional direction from Jennifer Leacey (The Secrets She Keeps) and Taylor Ferguson (Tough).
Fake comes from Kindling Pictures and is produced by Imogen Banks (Safe Home, Offspring) and Emelyne Palmer (Safe Home, RFDS). Asher Keddie is a co-producer and Paramount Australia and New Zealand’s Sophia Mogford is an executive producer. It was made with major production investment from Paramount Australia and Screen Australia, with additional support from VicScreen.
The series originally premiered on Paramount+ in Australia in 2021.
“We’ve got a great track record with Australian drama on ITVX,” said Sasha Breslau, head of content acquisitions at ITV. “Anya Beyersdorf’s work on The Twelve is a shining example of how well it resonates with our audiences, so we’re really looking forward to bringing her newest offering Fake to the U.K. in 2025. It’s a gripping thriller, made for binge-watching.”
Agapy Kapouranis, president of international television and digital distribution at Lionsgate Television, added, “We’re excited to partner with ITVX to bring this series to U.K. audiences. With a powerhouse cast led by Asher Keddie and David Wenham, Fake is an enthralling psychological drama that will leave viewers on the edge of their seats.”
