Richard Gere, Billy Howle, Tom Rob Smith to Launch MotherFatherSon

Richard Gere (Chicago, Pretty Woman), Billy Howle (Witness for the Prosecution, On Chesil Beach) and showrunner Tom Rob Smith (Child 44, London Spy, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story) are heading to MIPCOM to launch BBC Studios’ MotherFatherSon.

Exclusive first-look scenes from the eight-part original drama will be shown to international buyers at a special event in Cannes on Monday, October 15. The event will also be attended by Hilary Salmon, executive producer for BBC Studios Drama London.

MotherFatherSon was created and written by Smith and made by BBC Studios Production. Gere plays Max, a charismatic self-made American businessman with media outlets in London and around the world. Helen McCrory (Peaky Blinders, Harry Potter) plays Kathryn, a British heiress and Max’s estranged wife. Their 30-year-old son, Caden (Howle), runs Max’s U.K. newspaper and is primed to follow in his father’s footsteps as one of the most powerful men in the world. But when Caden’s self-destructive lifestyle spirals out of control, the devastating consequences threaten the future of the family, its empire and a country on the brink of change.

Paul Dempsey, the president of global markets at BBC Studios, commented: “Appearing at MIPCOM for the first time as the newly integrated BBC Studios, we’re extremely proud to be represented by world-class talents such as Richard Gere and Tom Rob Smith. The compelling characters and outstanding script created by Tom Rob Smith has enticed a stellar cast, including Helen McCrory, Billy Howle and Richard Gere, who makes his return to television after a 30-year hiatus.”
