Production has commenced on M-Net/Showmax and Night Train Media’s Catch Me a Killer, based on the memoir of the same name by Micki Pistorius.

Charlotte Hope (The Spanish Princess, Game of Thrones) stars as Pistorius, who was South Africa’s first serial killer profiler. The episodes of the adaptation take place over six years as Pistorius tracked down the country’s most-feared killers.

Shooting has begun in Cape Town, with the production also filming in Pretoria and other parts of rural South Africa. It is directed by Tracey Larcombe (Innocent) and adapted for the screen by Amy Jephta (Barakat, Trackers) and Jess Ruston (Young Wallander, Around the World in 80 Days). It is executive produced by Simon Howley of CMAK Films and Herbert L. Kloiber, Olivia Pahl and James Copp of Night Train Media (Rogue Agent). Abacus Media Rights is handling international sales.

Catch Me a Killer will premiere exclusively on M-Net and Showmax in 2023.

“We are thrilled to bring this unique and unapologetic show to screens, drawing back the curtain on a fascinating time, place and person,” Kloiber said.

Hope commented, “It is always a challenge and a privilege to recreate a real-life character, and Micki is no exception. Micki herself told me that psychologists and actors have very similar psychometric profiles, and it is such an honor to dive into the mind of this powerful and trailblazing woman as she, in turn, dives into the minds of the many characters that bind this dark and fascinating world together.”

Pistorius added, “It’s a fascinating process to watch my life dramatized, and we are thrilled to have such a talented actress as Charlotte on board.”

“Bringing this book to the screen has been a labor of love for us, and the talented production team led by Tracey Larcombe have exceeded our expectations in creating the atmosphere and intensity of the story,” Howley said.

Allan Sperling, executive head of content at Showmax, and Yolisa Phahle, CEO, added, “MultiChoice Group remains committed to being part of multiple co-productions with global partners, and we’re happy to add more titles to the growing list. We are proud to continue expanding such partnerships further to the benefit of all involved, be they in front of the camera or behind the scenes.”
