Sony Pictures Television has licensed the U.S. rights for the Australian drama The Narrow Road to the Deep North to Prime Video.

Based on the novel of the same name by Richard Flanagan, the limited series centers on Lieutenant-Colonel Dorrigo Evans, played by Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein, Saltburn, Priscilla), a celebrated World War II hero who is haunted by his experiences in a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp.

Evans is also haunted by memories of an affair he had with a woman named Amy Mulvaney, played by Odessa Young (Mothering Sunday, Shirley).

In addition to Elordi and Young, the cast features Ciarán Hinds (Belfast), Olivia DeJonge (Elvis), Simon Baker (Limbo, Breath), Show Kasamatsu (Tokyo Vice), Heather Mitchell (Ricky Stanicky) and Thomas Weatherall (Heartbreak High).

Presented by Amazon MGM Studios, the limited series is set to premiere on Prime Video in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand on April 18.

The Narrow Road to the Deep North is executive produced by Jo Porter and Rachel Gardner of Curio Pictures, part of Sony Pictures Television, alongside Flanagan, Shaun Grant and Justin Kurzel. They are joined by producer Alex Taussig. Principal production funding was provided by Screen Australia, with assistance from the New South Wales government through Screen NSW’s Made in NSW and PDV Funds.
