Prime Suspect: Tennison Clinches Masterpiece Slot on PBS

LONDON: Prime Suspect: Tennison is set to air on Masterpiece on PBS, following a deal inked by ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE).

A prequel to global hit Prime Suspect, the six-part series is a co-production from ITV Studios, NoHo Film and Television and Masterpiece for ITV. The series will portray the early career of one of television’s most famous detectives, Jane Tennison.

Prime Suspect: Tennison makes its official launch with ITVS GE at MIPCOM next week.

Greg Johnson, the executive VP of distribution for the Americas at ITVS GE, said: “One of the wonderful things about launching this series to the international market is that Tennison feels very topical and fresh, through the many complex and very current themes it explores. Yet it has the benefit of inheriting an international audience of loyal fans who loved Prime Suspect.”

Johnson added: “PBS was the original U.S. home of Prime Suspect so we are thrilled that they are continuing their association with this brilliant series on Masterpiece. We have a long and successful relationship working with Masterpiece to bring new, British drama to American audiences and we’re delighted to be continuing this with Tennison.”

Masterpiece Executive Producer Rebecca Eaton said: “Jane Tennison was adored by Masterpiece audiences, who cheered her on as she tried to make it in a man’s world. Prime Suspect: Tennison will imagine the events that made Jane the tenacious, difficult and brilliant detective she became.”
