Platform One Media has inked a first-look deal with Jaywalker Pictures, the production company formed by Laura Dern and her producing partner Jayme Lemons.

The deal kicks off with the development of Mr. & Mrs. American Pie, an hour-long series set in 1969 about a socialite who is dumped by her husband and subsequently banished from Palm Springs, Florida, to Scottsdale, Arizona, where she aspires to be crowned Mrs. American Pie. It is based on the novel of the same name by Juliet McDaniel. It will be written and executive  produced by McDaniel, along with  Dern, Lemons, Elisa Ellis of Platform One and Adam Gomolin, the founder of Inkshares, a book publisher and rights-management platform that  optioned  the rights to the novel to Platform One Media.

Platform One is the outfit founded by Evolution Media and Liberty Global and led by Katie O’Connell Marsh as CEO. “As an award-winning actress, talented producer and  articulate creative  visionary, Laura Dern is well-respected for her artistry and activism in Hollywood and around the world,” O’Connell Marsh said. “We look forward to working with Jaywalker Pictures to develop compelling stories and necessary narratives for television that resonate with audiences around the globe.”

She continued, “When Adam Gomolin  gave us Juliette’s wonderful novel we  all devoured  it. It is delicious storytelling that explores how an  unorthodox  family brings  social equality in the most unlikely and hilarious way. Laura and Jayme loved it as much as we  did,  and we are thrilled to have this as our first project out of the gate.”

Dern commented, “We feel so inspired by the passion Katie O’Connell and her amazing team brings to every creative conversation.”
