Peacock Orders Long Bright River Adaptation with Amanda Seyfried

Peacock has ordered a limited series adaptation of Liz Moore’s novel Long Bright River, with Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning actor Amanda Seyfried (The Dropout) to star and executive produce.

The suspense thriller tells the story of a police officer who patrols a Philadelphia neighborhood that has been hit hard by the opioid crisis. When a string of murders begins in the neighborhood, she realizes that her personal history might be related to the case.

The Long Bright River adaptation comes from Sony Pictures Television and UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. Nikki Toscano (The Offer, Hunters) is serving as showrunner, as well as writer and executive producer. Author Moore is also a writer and executive producer.

Additional executive producers are Seyfried; Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty and Amanda Lewis for Original Film; Amy Pascal for Pascal Pictures; and Hagar Ben-Asher (Bad Boy, Dead Women Walking). Ben-Asher is also directing the first episode.

Long Bright River tells a story about the collective power of an underserved community,” said Moore and Toscano. “We are thrilled that Amanda Seyfried will lead this series about how those initially perceived as victims can band together to regain their power. Moore’s family history and her work with harm reduction and community service organizations in Philadelphia informed the series, which aims to portray with compassion the lives of those struggling with addiction and the family members who love them.”
