Caligari Film Produktion has secured the remake rights for the classic series Pan Tau for TV and the big screen.

The deal was closed following four years of negotiations, and the all-new fantasy adventure series is expected to land on German TV screens by 2020, in time for the property’s 50th anniversary. Pan Tau was created by writer Ota Hoffmann and director Jindřich Polák. The legendary series follows a gentleman with a magic bowler hat whose trademark magic and self-shrinking skills bring about extraordinary situations.

Gabriele M. Walther, the CEO of Caligari Film, said, “I’m extremely grateful to the community of heirs for their confidence to bring Pan Tau back to life, a challenge I’m thrilled to take on.

“The remake of Pan Tau as [a] fantasy family series for German TV is scheduled to happen within the next 3 years.”

Otto Šimánek starred in Pan Tau for more than three seasons on TV, as well as in various television specials and feature films. A large-scale casting effort for his successor will begin in July.
