CANNES: Patrick Nebout, who previously set up NICE Drama in Sweden, has aligned with Beta Film’s Jan Mojto to launch the joint venture Dramacorp.

The new operation, based in Sweden, will focus on the creation, development and executive production of high-concept dramas with international appeal. The company is currently finalizing a slate of projects in a range of genres and budgets. Dramacorp will produce in partnership with local Scandinavian and international producers and talent.

Beta Film has invested in Dramacorp as a major shareholder.

Most recently, Nebout served as creative director of Atlantique Productions, where his credits include the commissioning of the crime thriller Midnight Sun by CANAL+ and SVT, which marked the first-ever TV project to be co-produced by French-Swedish partners.

Nebout said: “The scripted market has changed a great deal since I launched Nice DRAMA six years ago. To develop, create and package IP that is strong enough to make it in today’s market requires an equally strong investor, with extensive international experience, the ability to think outside the box and long-term ambition. Jan Mojto and his team at Beta Film fit that description perfectly. Dramacorp is not just another prodco in an already crowded Nordic market. Our concept is horizontal rather than vertical, so we’ll partner with local producers where it makes sense. Our aim is to make compelling and profitable drama and to shorten time-to-market.”

Mojto added: “We are constantly looking for creatives who are able to think and work globally. I am convinced that Patrick’s profound knowledge of the European production market is a perfect contribution to Beta Film’s content activities.”
