New Scandi Drama Valkyrien Scores U.K. Pickup

LONDON: Channel 4’s foreign-language drama service Walter Presents has added to its lineup the Nordic Noir Valkyrien from About Premium Content (APC).

The series will premiere on Channel 4 in 2017, following which all episodes will be exclusively available on Walter Presents. Produced by the Norwegian indie Tordenfilm for NRK, the eight-part, high-concept series is set in an illegal hospital hidden in an Oslo underground station. It tells the story of a physician who fakes his terminally ill wife’s death but keeps her secretly alive in an induced coma while he tries to find a cure for her illness.

Valkyrien is scheduled to launch on NRK in January 2017 and has already sold to broadcasters throughout Scandinavia.

Walter Iuzzolino, the curator for Walter Presents, commented: “How far would you go to save the one you love? Valkyrien is a totally unique thriller which raises the quality bar and totally redefines standards of excellence for European scripted drama. The high caliber of the cast and stunning production values make this the must-have show of the year.”

Laurent Boissel, joint CEO and co-founder of APC, said: “Walter Presents is rapidly establishing itself as a major platform for quality drama. We are excited that they and Channel 4 have picked up this new high-end drama, exposing it to a wide-reaching audience in the U.K.”
