BEVERLY HILLS: Legendary TV is producing a brand-new Lost in Space, based on the 1960s sci-fi classic, for Netflix.

The OTT service has ordered a ten-episode first season for a 2018 global rollout. The Irwin Allen Lost in Space aired on CBS from 1965 to 1968. The reboot is being penned by feature writing team Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, with Zack Estrin as showrunner.

“The original series so deftly captured both drama and comedy, and that made it very appealing to a broad audience,” said Cindy Holland, Netflix’s VP of original content. “The current creative team’s reimagining of the series for Netflix is sure to appeal to both fans who fondly remember the original and to create a new generation of enthusiasts around the world.”

Exec producers are Estrin, Sazama, Sharpless, Synthesis Entertainment’s Kevin Burns and Jon Jashni and Applebox’s Neil Marshall and Marc Helwig. Marshall is also set to direct several episodes of the series.
