Netflix Preps Midnight Diner as Japanese Original

SINGAPORE: The new original Japanese drama series Midnight Diner will premiere on Netflix this October simultaneously to 190 countries worldwide.

Midnight Diner is based on the comic book of the same name by Yaro Abe, and the best-selling manga series has sold approximately 3 million cumulative copies in Japan. The new Netflix original drama series stars Kaoru Kobayashi as the Master and maintains its original story, in which Katagiri, played by Joe Odagiri, visits Seoul, Korea, to see a new original character, Yoon-A, played by Korean actress Go Ah-sung (who appears only in the Netflix original).

Midnight Diner is set in a small eatery in a back alley in a busy district with bright neon lights. People refer to it as “Midnight Diner” because it is well into the evening when the lantern with the mark “Meshiya” lights up to show that it’s open for business. The drama will launch on Netflix on October 21.
