Netflix India to Take Local-Language Original Ghoul Out Globally

Netflix India has secured worldwide distribution rights for the limited series Ghoul, the first local-language project financed and produced through a partnership between Ivanhoe Pictures, Blumhouse Productions and Phantom Films.

The three-part limited horror series will debut on Netflix India in late 2018. The project was initially conceived and pitched as a stand-alone movie but the producing partners and Netflix India agreed to broaden the original idea into the current limited series format in order to expand the narrative.

Written and directed by Patrick Graham and produced by Madhu Mantena and Vikramaditya Motwane, Ghoul is the first co-production between Ivanhoe, Blumhouse and Phantom following a deal to create quality horror filmed entertainment in India. Ghoul is set in a military interrogation center in the remote countryside of India. It follows a mysterious political prisoner whose arrival coincides with dark, disturbing consequences for the center’s military police and prisoners alike. Indian actress Radhika Apte (Kabali, Parched) stars as a young member of the team investigating the chaos that abruptly enshrouds the center.

Michael Hogan, the president of international production at Ivanhoe Pictures, said, “On behalf of Blumhouse, Phantom and Ivanhoe, we’re delighted to be partnering with Netflix. When we formed our partnership, our goal was to produce world-class horror in India; with Netflix, we have a distributor who understands how to bring great local stories to a global audience.”
