NENT Group’s Pørni Renewed

Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group) has renewed the Norwegian comedy-drama series Pørni for a second and third season.

Created by and starring Henriette Steenstrup (Ragnarok, Lilyhammer, Beware of Children), two new seasons of the show will continue the bittersweet story of Pørni (Steenstrup), a middle-aged single parent who always puts others first while wanting more from life for herself. The second season of Pørni is currently filming in Oslo and is set to premiere exclusively on Viaplay in 2022.

Returning cast members from the first season include Jon Ranes (Out Stealing Horses), Vivild Falk Berg, Gunnar Eiriksson (Twin), Johanna Mørck and Nils Ole Oftebro, with Charlotte Blom continuing as director. The series is produced by Monster. Pørni set a new record for the most successful premiere of a Norwegian Viaplay Original when launching on NENT Group’s Viaplay streaming service in early May.

Steenstrup said: “The reception so far has been incredibly good and then suddenly the idea of making more Pørni became extremely frightening, but of course it’s very exciting too. We have so many plans for the next two seasons.”

Filippa Wallestam, NENT Group’s chief content officer, said: “Family life sometimes feels like one long dilemma, which might be why Pørni has immediately struck a chord with audiences. This is a show about a women’s balancing act that itself gets the balance just right: Pørni is at once comic and tragic, sometimes awkward but most of all incredibly charming. We trust talent and made Viaplay the home of Henriette Steenstrup’s first-ever series, so it’s very satisfying to see the series’ enormous success so far and to renew for two further seasons.”
