A second season of The Mallorca Files has been commissioned for BBC One Daytime and BBC iPlayer, ahead of the drama’s first season premiere on November 25.

Set among the vibrant international community of the eponymous Spanish island, The Mallorca Files centers on Detective Miranda Blake (Elen Rhys), an introvert who is used to living by the rules, and her German counterpart Max Winter (Julian Looman), whose approach to policing is based on gut instinct, with little interest in process. Dan Sefton (The Good Karma Hospital, Trust Me) returns to pen season two. The ten new episodes will launch in 2020.

All ten episodes of season one will be available on BBC iPlayer after the first episode airs on BBC One at 2:15 p.m. on November 25.

Dan McGolpin, BBC controller of programming and iPlayer, said: “With the nights drawing in, the time is right to transport yourself to sunnier climes by watching The Mallorca Files on BBC One and on BBC iPlayer from later this month. People are going to love spending time with Miranda and Max in this exciting and stylish first series and I’m delighted to announce that our crime-fighting duo will return for more capers in 2020.”

Rhys said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be back filming series two of The Mallorca Files. Being recommissioned is a huge show of faith and testament to all the hard work and heart the creatives, cast and crew have poured into the show. Miranda Blake has a good few crimes to solve yet!”

Looman added: “Getting a second series so soon is a great reward for all the passion, heart and fun we have put into playing the fantastic characters of Max and Miranda. We are hugely grateful for the trust the BBC and the production teams have shown in committing to this second season and we look forward to showcasing audiences more of Max and Miranda’s adventures.”

Sefton commented: “I’m delighted that the BBC has decided to commission a second series of The Mallorca Files. It’s been a great show to work on and the amazing support from Dan McGolpin and all at the BBC has allowed us to produce a fun, sexy and individual series set in a fantastic location. The experience of setting up and running a writer’s room for this show, full of talented and warm-hearted individuals, is one I’m anxious to repeat so I can’t wait to get started.”

Ben Donald, founder of Cosmopolitan Pictures, said: “I’m delighted and grateful that the BBC has agreed to commission more of the adventures of DCs Blake and Winter in the Mallorcan sun. We’ve got some fantastic new cases lined up for them and can’t wait to get started.”

Murray Ferguson, chief executive and director of Clerkenwell Films, said: “We couldn’t be more pleased to be making a second series of The Mallorca Files. It’s a witty and exciting show with a big warm heart that I’m confident the audiences are going to love just as much as we enjoy making it.”
