MISTCO Set to Launch Global Sales for Melek: A Mother’s Struggle

Shot in Gaziantep, Turkey, the MISTCO highlight Melek: A Mother’s Struggle centers on the plight of a woman as she sacrifices everything for her children in her fight to protect them.

The series follows as Melek (Nehir Erdogan; The Foreign Groom), the daughter of the Karadag family, and Halil (Kutsi; Second Chance), the son of the Sirhan family, are supposed to have an arranged marriage. On their engagement day, Melek elopes with Alpay (Kaan Cakir), the man she loves, and they run away to Berlin.

After this incident, the families never mention Melek’s name again. However, Halil never forgets Melek. The day Melek learns that she has cancer, she also learns that her husband is divorcing her and is getting custody of their children by forged documents.

“We have very high expectations for it, as it has a universal story reflecting all mothers’ reactions when their children are in need,” says Aysegul Tuzun, MISTCO’s VP of sales and marketing.

Also on the MISTCO slate, My Champion tells the story of a retired boxer who returns to the ring in an effort to save his sick son. Hold My Hand’s second season is also on MISTCO’s MIPCOM slate. Tuzun, who dubs Hold My Hand a modern Cinderella story, adds, “Our brand-new titles Melek and My Champion will touch people’s hearts, and everyone watching these series will see a piece of their lives and make connections with them.”

Tuzun adds, “With human stories, we are actually creating universal stories.”
