The Institute, an eight-episode thriller based on the novel by Stephen King, has been slated to bow on MGM+ on July 13.

Starring Ben Barnes (Westworld, The Punisher), Joe Freeman and Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds, Angels in America), the series follows the story of teen genius Luke Ellis, who is kidnapped and taken to a facility full of children with unusual abilities who all got there the same way he did. In a nearby town, haunted former police officer Tim Jamieson looks to start a new life, but his peace and quiet is disrupted when he collides with Luke.

The Institute is directed by Jack Bender and showrun by Benjamin Cavell. They both executive produce alongside King.

The series will premiere exclusively on MGM+ in 32 territories on July 13.

“What really appealed to me is that this isn’t a story about a hero riding to the rescue,” Cavell said at a screening of the series. “It’s about kids deciding, ‘If we want to get out of here, we get ourselves out.’”
