The drama series McMafia, inspired by Misha Glenny’s best-selling nonfiction book, has been licensed by BBC Worldwide into China and Sweden.

McMafia, known in China as The Godmans, will be made available to Chinese audiences following AVOD/SVOD deals with local IPTV service providers OPG and Youku. The series will make its TV debut in Sweden after linear broadcasting rights were licensed to the national public broadcaster SVT.

McMafia made its premiere on BBC One in the U.K., AMC in the U.S. and international premiere on Amazon Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide (excluding the U.K., China, the U.S. and Canada).

Paul Dempsey, the president of global markets at BBC Worldwide, said: “International demand for British drama is incredibly strong because audiences know they will be treated to compelling stories, expertly told. We’ve got world-class acting and production talent and our writers are on another level. Just look at some of the titles we’re launching at Showcase: Press, The Split and Doctor Who. Where else could you enjoy the work of Mike Bartlett, Abi Morgan and Chris Chibnall all in one place?”
