Kindle Entertainment has acquired the TV rights to Laura Marshall’s debut novel Friend Request.

A psychological thriller, Friend Request has already sold more than 100,000 copies in the U.K. across all formats, with the paperback to be published on January 11, 2018. The book will be adapted by Kate Gartside, whose writing credits include dramas such as BBC One’s Mistresses, BBC Two’s The Challenger and Channel 4’s Born to Kill.

The story follows as Louise Williams receives a “friend request” on social media from Maria Weston, who was last seen alive at their school leavers’ party more than 20 years ago. Louise has lived her entire adult life feeling responsible for Maria’s disappearance. But now Maria is back—or is she?

Melanie Stokes, the managing director of Kindle Entertainment, said, “Laura Marshall’s novel mines the unease we can all feel, now that our past mistakes are only a click away from discovery… And we are really thrilled that the wonderfully clever, Kate Gartside is adapting this utterly gripping and thoroughly entertaining thriller.”

Marshall added, “I am utterly delighted that Friend Request has been optioned for TV by Kindle Entertainment. Getting my book published has been a dream come true, and this really is the icing on the cake.”
