Disney+ is set to launch The Files of Young Kindaichi, a Japanese mystery drama series produced by Nippon TV.

Based on the manga comic The Kindaichi Case Files, the live-action reimagining will bring audiences into the world of teenage detective Hajime Kindaichi as he looks to uncover the truth behind a series of murders. Starring Shunsuke Michieda, Moka Kamishiraishi and Ikki Sawamura, The Files of Young Kindaichi will be available to stream on Disney+ from June 1.

Hajime Kindaichi is the grandson of the legendary private detective Kosuke Kindaichi, and when a series of seemingly unsolvable murders take place throughout Tokyo, he puts his genius-level IQ to work. Despite only being in high school, Kindaichi proves himself more capable than other detectives and ends up working together with the chief inspector of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department along with his childhood friend Miyuki.

Other Japanese titles on Disney+’s slate include the anime series Black Rock Shooter Dawn Fall; the upcoming release of My Family, about a CEO and his wife doing everything possible to rescue their kidnapped daughter; and the upcoming winter release of Gannibal, a live-action adaptation of the manga series.
