Issa Rae, Laura Dern to Produce & Star in HBO Limited Series

The limited series The Dolls is in development for HBO, with Laura Dern (Big Little Lies) and Issa Rae (Insecure) attached to star and executive produce.

The story will recount the aftermath of the Christmas Eve riots over Cabbage Patch Dolls within two small Arkansas towns in 1983. The series will explore themes of class, race, privilege and what it takes to be a “good mother.”

The limited series comes from Dern and Jayme Lemons’ Jaywalker Pictures and is co-written by Rae and Insecure writers Laura Kittrell and Amy Aniobi.
