AfterShock Media, parent company to AfterShock Comics, has signed a deal with Hulu that will see the streamer adapt the upcoming comic A Calculated Man.

The math-inspired crime series follows an accountant living in witness protection after betraying his former employers, a crime family. When he decides to reclaim his old life, a journey full of murder, mayhem and mathematics ensues.

The comic comes from writer Paul Tobin (Bunny Mask) and artist Alberto Albuquerque (The Amazing Spider-Man, Letter 44). Peter Calloway (Cloak & Dagger, Under the Dome, Legion) is set to showrun the adaptation. Calloway has worked with AfterShock Comics before, having written Shadow Doctor. Jon Kramer, CEO of AfterShock Media, and Lee Kramer will serve as executive producers for AfterShock Media.

The deal was made by Rive Gauche, an AfterShock Media company.

“We are so excited to have found the perfect home at Hulu,” Jon Kramer said. “This was a very competitive situation, but creatively, they understood not only our vision for the title and the lead Jack Beans, but brought us a writer, Peter Calloway, who we had not only worked with before but also pitched us a concept that was in sync with both Paul and Alberto’s devilishly fun creation. Lee and I couldn’t be happier to be working with Jordan, Ashley, Lea and the entire creative team, as this is a project that we know will get the attention it deserves and will be captivating audiences for years to come.”

“It’s not often that a story grabs you by the throat and heart at the same time,” Calloway said. “A Calculated Man did just that. The moment I read Paul and Alberto’s beautifully bonkers book, I was excited to bring it to the screen. Doing it at Hulu—with their commitment to unflinching, unique stories—is a dream come true.”
