HBO Gwen Shamblin Doc to Receive Scripted Adaptation

HBO Max’s docuseries The Way Down: God, Greed & The Cult of Gwen Shamblin is set to be adapted as a scripted series by Campfire Studios and Huntley Productions.

The docuseries explores the practices of the Remnant Fellowship Church and its leader, Gwen Shamblin Lara, as both have received accusations of emotional, psychological and physical abuse. Michelle Dean (The Act) will serve as showrunner and executive producer of the scripted adaptation.

Executive producers alongside Dean will be Marina Zenovich (director of The Way Down docuseries), Nile Cappello, Campfire Studios CEO Ross Dinerstein, P.G. Morgan, 3 Arts Entertainment’s Luke Dillon and Huntley Productions Founder Chrissy Teigen. Rebecca Evans and Ross Girard serve as co-executive producers.
