Gugu Mbatha-Raw to Star in New Apple TV+ Thriller

Apple TV+ has given a straight-to-series order for Veronica West’s psychological thriller Surface, produced by Apple Studios and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw (The Morning Show, Misbehaviour) is set to lead the cast. West, who created and wrote the original series, will serve as executive producer, along with Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter executive producing on behalf of Hello Sunshine. Mbatha-Raw will serve as co-executive producer.

Surface marks the latest in a string of high-profile projects between Apple and Hello Sunshine. Most recently, the two announced the upcoming series My Kind of Country, a global search for country music talent and the first competition series for the platform. Other series include The Morning Show, which is currently in production on its second season, as well as Truth Be Told, starring Octavia Spencer and Kate Hudson.
