A press conference held at MIPTV saw the cast and creatives behind Global Agency’s hit Turkish drama One Love discuss the cultural clash that drives the series.

Global Agency CEO Izzet Pinto welcomed prolific producer Faruk Turgut and screenwriters Melis Civelek and Zeynep Gür, along with a bevy of stars: Barış Kılıç, Evrim Alasya, Sibel Tasçioglu, Müjde Uzman, Sila Turkoglu, Dogukan Güngör, Ceren Karakoç and Feyza Civelek.

The show, which is produced by Gold Film for Show TV, follows the dramatic love story between the idealistic university student Doga and Fatih, a charming man from a devout family. The families’ values clash, as Doga grew up under the influence of her independent and strong-willed mother and is raised to see a similar future for herself.

During the press conference, Turgut, producer of One Love, explained the purpose of the conflict at the story’s heart. “We wanted to hold a mirror to society; we wanted to show the sociological clashes in Turkey. We wanted to show the truth of Turkey.”

The story grows more intense when Doga becomes pregnant, and instead of terminating the pregnancy as her mother encourages her to, she marries Fatih. The couple, and the family, are left to overcome their differences and find harmony together for a better future.

Turgut noted, “We want to raise awareness and maybe help people to question themselves. I think that we have succeeded.” One Love poses many questions on the moral and social divide in Turkey, but the theme is universal, as many populations around the world are coming to terms with their own internal and external sociological conflicts.

One Love’s production is ongoing. “The viewers are more and more interested,” said Turgut. “We are very happy to be part of this project, and we are proud of it.”
