Gail Egan and Andrea Calderwood’s Potboiler Television has secured the rights to Bernardine Evaristo’s Booker-winning novel Girl, Woman, Other.

Evaristo is the first black woman to win the Booker Prize. Girl, Woman, Other tells the story of modern Britain through the voices of 12 very different people—mostly women, mostly black—who call it home.

Girl, Woman, Other was selected by Barack Obama as one of his favorite books of 2019, and as a Book of the Year in more than 22 other U.K. and U.S. publications. The rights to the book have now been sold in 25 territories around the world.

“We are delighted to be working with Bernardine on bringing this vibrant and joyous novel to the screen. It is a vivid and authentic as well as important story of our times, ” said Egan.

The deal was struck with Lesley Thorne at Aitken Alexander on behalf of Bernardine Evaristo’s agent Emma Paterson.
