Gaumont in First-Look Deal with J.C. Chandor

Gaumont has entered into a first-look television deal with J.C. Chandor (Margin Call, All is Lost, A Most Violent Year).

The pact covers Chandor’s production company, CounterNarrative, and producing partners Neal Dodson and Anna Gerb. Gaumont and Chandor and his team are already at work on developing multiple TV projects, with one about to go to market, one with a screenwriter hired and writing, another out to writers, and several others in the works.

Chandor is an Academy Award-nominated screenwriter, director and producer. He will write, produce and direct projects as part of the deal with Gaumont, and he is next set to direct the feature film Triple Frontier for Netflix.

“J.C. Chandor is the complete package—a brilliantly talented screenwriter, director and producer, who is ideally suited to partner with Gaumont on the development of multiple drama series for both traditional and streaming distribution platforms,” explains Gaumont’s president of television for the U.S., Gene Stein. “And Anna and Neal are fantastic producers in their own right. We are delighted to welcome all three to the Gaumont team.”

“As we looked to expand our storytelling into the new horizons available in television my producers and I could not have found more perfect partners,” added Chandor. “Gene and his entire team at Gaumont are an amazing combination of bold creative risk-takers who are able to build on the institutional foundation of the oldest film production company in the world. I am humbled by their support and my hope is that together we will create original far-reaching content that we can all be proud of.”
