Game of Thrones Prequel Takes Shape

New details have been revealed for the Game of Thrones prequel from Jane Goldman and George R.R. Martin, with S.J. Clarkson signed on to direct the pilot.

Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden age of heroes into its darkest hour. The logline promises “it’s not the story we think we know,” teasing “horrifying secrets” of Westeros’s history, the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East and the Starks of legend.

Clarkson, who is on board to direct the upcoming Star Trek film, will direct the prequel pilot. She most recently directed and executive produced Collateral, a BBC/Netflix four-part limited series.

Previously announced series regulars Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse will be joined by the newly added cast of Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth), Denise Gough (People, Places and Things), Jamie Campbell Bower (Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street), Sheila Atim (Harlots), Ivanno Jeremiah (Humans), Georgie Henley (Narnia franchise), Alex Sharp (How to Talk to Girls at Parties) and Toby Regbo (The Last Kingdom).
