ITV and Tall Story Pictures have commenced filming for the fifth season of The Bay, centered on the death of a university student.

In the new season, Morecambe’s detectives must solve the death of 23-year-old Hannah, who was found at the edge of the docks. As the team digs deeper into the case, they uncover hidden friendships and secret liaisons, and anger rises within the student community.

Also, DS Jenn Townsend must grapple with the death of her own father while working the case.

Marsha Thomason, Daniel Ryan, Erin Shanagher, Andrew Dowbiggin, Barry Sloane, Georgia Scholes, David Carpenter and Emma Hayes return for season five and are joined by Olwen May (Happy Valley, Trying) and Suzanne Packer (Casualty, Keeping Faith).

New guest cast members are Leanne Best (The Walk-In, Cold Feet), Neil Maskell (Hijack, Kill List), David Troughton (A Very Peculiar Place, New Tricks), Stephen Wight (Screw, I May Destroy You), Ceallach Spellman (Better, White Lines) and Tara Lynne O’Neill (The Full Monty, Derry Girls).

The Bay is co-created and written by award-winning writer and playwright Daragh Carville and produced by Tall Story Pictures, part of ITV Studios. Caroline Carver returns to the writing team and is joined by Evan Placey. The series sees Shaun Evans directing episodes one through three, with Waris Islam directing four through six. Martin Campbell will produce.

“We are thrilled to be coming back to our beloved Morecambe for another series,” said Catherine Oldfield, creative director of Tall Story Pictures and executive producer of the series. “Daragh has written yet another captivating and emotional series which we know will enthrall The Bay fans. We are so excited to start filming with Marsha, Dan and the team.”
