STOCKHOLM: Eccho Rights has licensed a pair of Turkish dramas into Western Europe, among them Cherry Season to Mediaset in Italy.

The Surec Film and FOX production marks the first Turkish drama to be broadcast on a major channel in Italy, according to Eccho Rights. Additionally, the company has licensed Broken Pieces to Sweden’s SVT. The Endemol Shine Turkey/Star TV series will begin running daily for 20 weeks on SVT2 this fall.

“It’s no surprise that Turkish drama is proving a hit in Italy,” said Nicola Söderlund, managing partner at Eccho Rights. “The content is perfect for the local audience and we hope that this first agreement will open up the doors for further deals.”

“This is the third Turkish drama that SVT has licensed from us,” said Fredrik af Malmborg, managing director at Eccho Rights. “In 2013, The End from Ay Yapim had a very successful ten-week run on SVT2 and the channel also ordered 20 Minutes, another Ay Yapim product. It’s great that the broadcaster now wants to take Broken Pieces. We are convinced that Swedish viewers will be glued to the screen of this original Turkish version with Swedish subtitles.”
