Doctor Foster Heads to India

The BBC Studios drama Doctor Foster is set to be remade in India, following the sale of the scripted format.

Hotstar Specials is collaborating with BBC Studios to adapt the critically acclaimed series for Indian audiences. Local filmmakers Tigmanshu Dhulia and Aijza Khan are directing the series, and the Indian adaptation, which is yet to be titled, will launch on Hotstar later this year.

Additionally, Doctor Foster will return to screens in France, following the airing of the first season last year. Renamed locally as Infidèle (Unfaithful), BBC Studios’ French production base will also co-produce the second season of the format with Storia Television for TF1.

Doctor Foster was originally written by Mike Bartlett and produced by Drama Republic for BBC One and has previously been licensed to Russia, France and South Korea.

Doctor Foster’s unique and brilliant portrayal of adultery and revenge has provided a complex psychological thriller within the genre, so I’m especially pleased that India will be getting their own local version and France will soon be treated to the next chapter of Infidèle.”
