Disney+ has given a series order for an adaptation of The Crossover, based on Kwame Alexander’s best-selling novel, with LeBron James set to executive produce.

The Crossover centers on teen brothers, widely considered basketball prodigies, as they come of age on and off the court while their former professional player father adjusts to life after the sport and their mother finally pursues dreams of her own.

The drama will star Jaylyn Hall, Amir O’Neil, Derek Luke (The Purge), Sabrina Revelle (Zac & Mia), Skyla I’Lece (Turn: Washington’s Spies), Deja Monique Cruz (Law & Order: SVU) and Trevor Raine Bush (After).

The Crossover‘s pilot episode is directed by George Tillman, Jr. (The Hate U Give, For Life), and was written by Alexander and Damani Johnson (All Rise). Executive producers include Todd Harthan (The Resident, Rosewood), Johnson, Alexander, Tillman, Bob Teitel, Jay Marcus and The SpringHill Company’s LeBron James, Maverick Carter and Jamal Henderson.

The Disney Branded Television series is produced by 20th Television.

Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, said, “We’re honored to bring Kwame Alexander’s poignant, emotional and poetic story to our Disney+ audience in partnership with this outstanding group of creative talent.”
