VANCOUVER: Thunderbird is working with David Salzman to develop a TV series based on the New York Times best-selling Decker-Lazarus mystery novels from author Faye Kellerman.

The initial development will focus on The Ritual Bath, the first book in the series and the first novel optioned by Thunderbird. The story is set in the world of Orthodox Judaism and centers on hard-nosed LAPD Detective Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus, a widow and mother of two who witnesses a brutal crime and becomes embroiled in solving it.

Salzman’s wide-ranging credits include Dallas, Max Headroom, MADtv and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Thunderbird’s most recent projects include the upcoming Blade Runner 2049, starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, and the Canadian comedy Kim’s Convenience.

Thunderbird’s president, Tim Gamble, said: “Good storytelling is so important in our business. With this project, we get to work with a phenomenal team on stories that people already love, what a great opportunity.”

“Bringing Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus to life on-screen will be a new and exciting adventure for me,” Kellerman said.

Salzman noted: “Faye is a world-class talent, I am thrilled to be working with her and Thunderbird to introduce her incredibly fresh characters and plotlines to an audience that transcends her enormous existing fan base.”
