Red Arrow Studios International’s scripted format Danni Lowinski is back in development at CBS, with the U.S. remake to be executive produced by Jane the Virgin‘s Jennie Snyder Urman and her Sutton St. Productions.

The new series, Danni Delgado, will see the original German female character cast as a Latina lead. The U.S. treatment will be written and produced by Nicki Renna (Charmed), with Shirley Bowers for Red Arrow Studios International and Intrigue Entertainment’s Tariq Jalil and Lucas Carter executive producing.

The story follows a former hairdresser-turned-law graduate who is whip-smart, mouthy and undeniably herself. When she’s rejected by every straight-laced traditional law firm in town, she decides to change the world from her mall-kiosk law practice, one dollar-a-minute case at a time.

The original German series was created by Marc Terjung and produced by Markus Brunnemann and UFA Fiction for SAT.1 in Germany. It starred Annette Frier as Danni and was a long-running ratings success for SAT.1.

Red Arrow Studios International distributes the Danni Lowinski format worldwide. The series has been adapted in a number of territories, including the Netherlands, where the remake aired for four seasons.

Joel Denton, acting president of Red Arrow Studios International, said: “We are delighted to find such great U.S. partners as Jennie Snyder Urman, Nicki Renna, Intrigue Entertainment and CBS, for this latest Danni Lowinski remake. With such a strong, charismatic female lead at its heart, this new production promises to have plenty of passion, wit and intelligence.”
