RED Production Company is working with director and graphic artist Joann Sfar on Monsters’ Shrink, which has been commissioned by Canal+.

Monsters’ Shrink marks Sfar’s first English-language live-action series, which follows the story of New Yorker Rebecka Broke, a psychoanalyst who comes across an Eastern European vampire when she is investigating the mysterious death of her husband in Antibes. She unexpectedly becomes a shrink for all monsters. The series is freely adapted from Sfar’s original novel L’Eternel, published by Albin Michel in France. Production is slated to begin in early 2018 on the eight-part drama.

Sfar commented: “I am so excited to be working for Canal+ with RED Production Company on my first international live-action drama. Having our lead character Rebecka confront the reawakening of this twisted world and the chance to see my monsters come to life in this way will be thrilling—a new take on the classical monster world.”

Fabrice de la Patelliere, the director of fiction programming at Canal+, said: “We are delighted to be partnering Joann Sfar, whose unique and fascinating universe is brought to life with Monsters’ Shrink. We felt that it was important to offer our subscribers a vision into the world of this extraordinary artist who fits perfectly with our Creation Originale.”

Nicola Shindler, CEO of RED Production Company and executive producer, added: “Joann Sfar is a truly visionary creative and Monsters’ Shrink is the product of that unique imagination. We are absolutely thrilled to be working with him to bring this totally original and innovative new show together for Canal+.”
