Banijay Rights has sold the new six-part limited series Rogue Heroes to Canal+, which will air the series in France and in all Canal+ territories around the world later this year.

Based on Ben Macintyre’s best-selling book of the same name and adapted for the screen by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), the series provides a dramatized account of how the U.K. special forces unit, the SAS, was formed during the darkest days of World War II.

Rogue Heroes is produced by Kudos and Nebulastar for BBC. The cast includes Connor Swindells (Sex Education, Vigil), Jack O’Connell (Skins, The North Water), Alfie Allen (Jojo Rabbit, Game of Thrones), Tom Glynn-Carney (Dunkirk, The King), Sofia Boutella (Modern Love, Atomic Blonde) and Dominic West (The Wire, Appropriate Adult).

The agreement with Canal+ follows EPIX’s acquisition for the U.S., HBO Max for Europe, Prime Video for Canada and SBS for Australia.

Isabelle Queme,  senior VP of French-speaking EMEA at Banijay Rights, said: “Steven Knight and Kudos’ magnificent Rogue Heroes continues to build huge momentum worldwide, and we are beyond thrilled to secure this latest deal with Canal+, taking this epic—and important—Second World War story to a whole new audience across France and all Canal+ territories around the world.”

Jean-Marc Juramie, senior executive VP of pay-TV content at Canal+ Group, added: “We are thrilled to add this incredible event series from acclaimed writer Steven Knight to our lineup here at Canal+. Our subscribers from all over the world will discover this important Second World War story about extraordinary men, whose stories have been further elevated by this outstanding cast.”
